A question that we sometimes get about our courses is if we offer CEC points.
In short, the answer is absolutely not (and for good reasons!)
CEC points were created by Fitness Australia whom are the ‘acting’ governing body of the fitness industry.
So what does that mean? Not a whole lot actually.
The fitness industry is a unregulated industry which means Fitness Australia have no power over you and can’t ‘strip’ you of your Cert IV in personal training or fitness.
Unlike Chiropractors, Osteos, and other medical professions whom’s license CAN BE taken away and IS regulated by an official governing body; the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Personal Trainers license to ‘practice’ cannot be taken away by Fitness Australia, nor is the industry regulated by Fitness Australia.
In short, Fitness Australia are a powerless organisation to act or to regulate the fitness industry. Their rule is only enforced by misinformation.
Rumours and myths will have you believe that you cannot gain insurance unless you’re registered with Fitness Australia. This is false. In fact, so long as you have a valid Cert IV in Fitness or Personal Training, you can speak to any retable insurance broker and they can have you insured in a matter of moments. If you do any of our Enterprise or Wolfpack courses, we would more than happy to pass on the details to our broker.
The other rumour is, not all insurance will cover you because one trainer didn’t have their claim covered. Whilst it’s true, you need the right cover (the value of a good insurance broker) the reality with insurance is; negligence is negligence. If you don’t document or train the client correctly, and they get injured, they have grounds to sue you. So train your clients properly, screen them and keep documents. Something we teach in all our courses.
The CEC programs that Fitness Australias accredit, ultimately have to conform to Fitness Australias standards, which we find unbelievably low and out of date. I once had one of my programs assessed by Fitness Australia and it was deemed ‘anti-carb’ for not following the food pyramid and going with the ‘standard’ recommendations.
From experience, we have never found the food pyramid to produce head turning results, but we have produced results. STACKS OF THEM. In fact, we’re world renown for producing results and we’ve had trainers travel from all around the world to attend our courses and seminars.
Being on the cutting edge and an industry leader means your ideas won’t be mainstream.. ever. But that’s were the opportunity is; to be ahead of the game you need to do things differently. You need to do things better. While others are still debating and deciding, we’re training champions, collecting high fives and getting paid.
CEC’s or no CEC’s. If PT is your career, learn from people who have the knowledge to further your career.
Ask our hundreds of happy students what we’ve done for them and I am sure you will be happy not to be CEC in place of actual education that sky rockets your career and success as a trainer.
