Damian completed his first IronMan in Cairns a few weekends ago, finishing in a time 12hrs 21m 40s.
Damian has been working with our Enterprise Master Coach, James, for almost 2 years now, with 7 Triathlon events under their belts, 2 of which have been half IronMans.
His commitment level to reaching a full IronMan has been exceptional; training before and after work, 4 to 6 hours a day, for 5 to 6 days per week. Damian would wake up early to get his training in before spending the day running his own business, then heading home to train again.
Squeezing in strength workouts together proved difficult, but most definitely not impossible! James wanted to ensure Damian stayed injury free with the amount of stress going through his body. Strength work was also going to improve Damian’s overall performance.
You’d think Damian had always been a sporty guy, being an IronMan athlete. However, the reason he started Triathlon based training was to initially improve his health. He had been a heavy smoker and leading a pretty poor lifestyle. Four years into competing, it’s safe to say achieving his first IronMan is testament to the level of his new-found dedication.
He’s earned a pretty good break from training for a few weeks, don’t you think?
Bring on the next IronMan!
