Have you been spending months working on that perfect holiday shape but worried that all of your hard work will go to waste as soon as you get there?
Here are our top tips on staying in shape and feeling good on your next adventure.
1. Always make the best choice with the options you have.
Remind yourself that you are a healthy person, who eats healthy foods, that build and nourish your body. So if you’re at the breakfast buffet wondering what to pick, ask yourself “what would the healthiest version of me pick?”
2. Get moving and try to sweat most days.
This could mean a session at the gym, a bike ride or a walk to explore somewhere new.
3. Do your research.
Instead of just winging it, research cafes and restaurants that cater to paleo-like diets and look out for ones that have gluten/diary free options on their menu. You will be surprised with what you find, and make ordering a hell of a lot easier.
4. Don’t feel like crap.
Avoid all foods that make you feel like crap or cause discomfort. If something makes you feel bloated or sick then don’t eat it, no matter how tasty those pastries look!
5. Save treats til the end of the day.
Try committing to starting your day with a nourishing breakfast and lunch and if you’re wanting dessert, save it for the end of the day. This will help prevent over-indulging throughout the day.
6. Establish a healthy routine at the start of your trip.
Starting day 1 of a holiday with pancakes for breakfast, junk food for lunch and cocktails for dinner could easily become a habit for the rest of your holiday. Instead, try to spend the first few days settling in and making the healthiest choices possible, knowing that there is still plenty of time to treat yourself towards the end of the trip if you still feel like it.
7. Relax and have fun!
Understand that you will not be able to eat and train exactly the way you do at home so don’t dwell on it. Enjoy your trip and your body (and body composition) will love the extra relaxation time!
