The balance of freedom and disciple around your nutrition

We’ve all been there, at least metaphorically. We’re driving home from the end of a big day, going maybe just a little too fast to see the bed of nails on the road. We swerve, but ‘POP!” One of our tires goes out. As we pull over to the side of road to survey the damage, our sanity escapes us, expelling out like the air once trapped in that punctured tire. So we do what any once rational person would do in that situation – we slash the other three. Hours later, once we have returned from the descent into madness, we finally decide to call the tow truck guy, to which we sheepishly announce, having not one, but four flat tires!
In coaching, this is what is called flat-tire syndrome, commonly known as the ‘What-the-hell’ effect in psychology, and it’s a real killer of fitness, weight-loss and physique dreams.
It’s probably not that hard to picture either. You’ve been sticking to your diet all week, weighing and timing everything just perfectly. Then you decide to have ‘just one’, which turns into two, which quickly turns into four, which turns into the packet which turns into, ‘I wonder what else I’ve got in the cupboard?’ As the potato chip company Pringle’s aptly conned the catch phrase, “once you pop, you can’t stop.”
What flat-tire syndrome points out is how nonsensical it is to be completely deflated by just one diet slip-up. No one in their right mind would slash an additionally three tires from puncturing one. As such, body composition progress does not need to be completely undone with a momentary deviation from your plan. So why do we feel that compulsion to slash the wheels of our nutritional progress?
The problem is two fold: it’s both a problem of our physiology and psychology.
The harder we diet, the more of a physiological hole we create. If our plans are too low in calories, have the wrong ratios of macronutrients or a missing vital micronutrients, our cravings will be strong and constant. Furthermore, if we select foods that have been designed to hijack our appetite and control, it’s game over. Once we give in to that soft and creamy tub of ice-cream, our physiology shoots off numerous responses. Neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin are released, soaking our brains in the reward-and feel-good chemicals. Blood sugar spikes, which in turn releases insulin which makes us feel sleepy. The appetite satiety hormone leptin gets down-regulated while the appetite hunger hormone, Ghrelin gets up-regulated. It’s a chemical cocktail for a good time with you and whatever snacks remain in your cupboard, freezer or fridge. It would be hyperbole to say it’s like a drug-addict looking for a hit; however, it’s like a drug addict looking for a hit.
This is why it’s imperative that the nutrition plan you follow is sound so you don’t under-eat. The compulsive consumption frenzy does not exist when you’re following the right plan, even during a calorie deficit if the plan is put together with sound principles. But it’s not just our psychology that we have to contend with. Once we open the flood gates of the deep-fried, salt and vinegar corn chips, it’s easy for our mind to play tricks on us. We utter sentences like ‘it’s just one’, ‘the diet starts Monday’, or ‘may as well now and get it out of my system now’.
This is why we should all have a plan around our nutrition and training. It was retired Navy SEAL, Jocko Willink, who said ‘discipline equals freedom’. In fact, discipline gives you the ultimate freedom of choice, like sticking to your plan Monday through to Friday and having that scheduled burger and chips Saturday night – and actually enjoying it. All the while you find yourself waking up leaner the next day. Many would believe this to be impossible. It’s not only possible; it can be your new normal, but the price you pay for it is with the discipline of sticking to a plan. You can pay for indulgence with discipline or guilt, but you can only choose one.
Super happy to say that my fitness goals have been reached within 12 weeks and all credit to my brilliant couch, Nathan. The man is an absolute weapon & a master in his craft - If you’re unsure of what trainer to go with then I would without a doubt recommend Nathan. Not only because of his deep knowledge in exercise science but it’s his absolutely INSANE knowledge in nutrition that’s stands him miles apart from any couch I’ve trained with.All in all the experience was phenomenal, I’ll be back again for another round in the future.
I had looked to get back into training after covid lockdowns and found it hard to find the right trainer. As a psychology coach myself what I’m looking for is something special in a personal trainer. He’s not only exceptionally knowledgable, educated and experienced but on top of that he has natural coaching ability, understands people and how to motivate them, has a great personality and is caring and empathetic. Enterprise surprised me as being not just another 'PT experience'. The team not only delivers on the usual personalised 1-to-1 training programs (complete with exclusive use of a private gym), but outshines its competitors with their holistic approach to building long-term and sustainable habits. In training with Adrian and Cristiano, there was a palpable emphasis on building confidence, holding yourself accountable to your own goals and raising the bar higher at any opportunity - so much so, that working out (though important), felt secondary to the program.When enrolled, your programs covers everything from customised food plans and body goals to sleep habits and skill development. You are also assessed fairly regularly to monitor your progress and keep you on track with your own targets.This was the first fitness regime I've participated in where it truly felt that the trainers are focussed on building you up in a way where you could ultimately walk away from them, and feel confident that you could succeed on your own steam - a rare quality in the fitness industry. Most importantly, the energy of the Enterprise team is highly infectious and makes training not only fun, but also addictive. I've been working with Tyrone at Enterprise for the past 4 months and the only thing I regret is that I didn't start earlier.He has extreme levels of knowledge and attention to detail with workout programs and nutrition that has exceeded my expectations. Tyrone is an excellent coach, ever since I started with him my improvement has been significant. Most of all his commitment to his clients are next level. He had a baby and within 2 weeks was back to coaching!! Wish everyone was as committed to there clients as him, especially after having a child.

I want to thank Ari so much. I had never trained properly, especially with weights and before joining enterprise fitness I had some really up and down periods with my weight. I had gone through a period of time for about 2 years were I was really skinny and felt really weak all the time from unhealthy habits and then went to the opposite spectrum were I gained a lot of weight and felt so self conscious. I decided to look into personal training so I could do it right this time and this is when I found enterprise fitness. My first point of contact was Mark, he was so lovely and made the process so easy. I was very anxious about going to a proper gym as I had only ever trained at home but everyone was so lovely and I couldn't have had a better welcome. From there I was introduced to Ari. He was super friendly, kind and funny from the moment I met him. I enjoyed every session with him and genuinely enjoyed my workouts each and every time. He educated me on nutrition and the importance and just from that change I felt stronger. I’m an ex-international athlete from Ireland. I retired many years ago and having moved to Melbourne with my husband and two small kids I felt it was time to get back into fitness again. I didn’t have the motivation or time to go training on my own and would have always had my own coach.My husband came back from Enterprise Fitness one day and randomly signed me up! I went down and was met with a really friendly and inviting atmosphere. Almost like a home away from home. I was assigned my trainer, Matt and he went through specific nutrition goals and what programme I would be doing.I’m currently on my second season with them and absolutely love it. Matt is a strong and encouraging personal trainer and puts me through my paces. I certainly would never work this hard on my own! Enterprise Fitness are second to none. The team are extremely friendly and personable. Nathan epitomises everything you would want in a personal trainer. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the role, from nutrition and tracking to training and programs. He communicates effectively and takes the time to to educate you, and arms you with the knowledge and skills to take what you have learnt and integrate it into your everyday life. I consider training with Enterprise Fitness as one of the best decisions I've made in my life. Big word, but definitely it is. I am beyond grateful to my coach, Cristiano Colla who helped me achieve my goals/fitness journey. I still can't believe from 26+% body fat, I am now at 10%! I feel great and look great (getting ready for my photoshoot!) but I believe I have also improved well mentally (mindset). Cristiano is an amazing personal trainer coach and I think I wouldn't have done it without his guidance. I really like how he created a personalised training program that is tailored to my exact needs and adding the importance of the nutrition aspect to it. Cristiano also communicates well with me and pushes me when I need to and gives me the appropriate encouragement during training. He's very dedicated and committed. I have been training with Lewis Franz for almost 3 years. When I first started training with him, he not only helped me reach my weightloss goals (26kg) but helped me do so in a healthy and sustainable way. During my pregnancy and post partum, Lewis continued to personalise my training and nutrition to meet my new needs. He listens to what your goals are, helps you push the limits to get to those goals, the methods used are realistic and sustainable and he shares the knowledge behind the training and nutrition so that you can develop your own understanding of how to use these skills in the real world. I cannot recommend a better PT. Enterprise Fitness and Lewis have been fantastic and I look forward to learning more and reaching those next goals with their help!

Signed up for a 12 week program with 2 sessions a week with Jaka. Professional at all times, with attention to detail in all aspects of training including meals, training, rest to reach my goals. Also very flexible with his program as I had to have wisdom teeth removed half way through the program and was very accommodating. Gym is well equipped with very friendly staff. I reached my goals and am looking better than I ever have. Highly recommend Jaka if you are considering joining up
I have been a client at Enterprise for years, and wanted to articulate how overwhelmingly positive my experience here has been.Enterprise has the unique ability to truly serve clients whatever starting point they have, and whatever their goals are. I think this is important to emphasise, as I know that joining a gym - especially one with as many high-achieving clients as Enterprise - could make the average person (ie, someone like me) feel unsure. Non-bodybuilders or non-athletes might wonder if this is not a gym for them. I can confidently tell you whoever you are, this is a gym where you will feel welcomed, respected, encouraged, and challenged in the best way. If you are an elite athlete, this is the place for you. If you are an absolute beginner, this is the place for you. The staff are incredibly skilled and experienced, and experts at helping clients achieve their goals, whatever they may be. They are friendly without being pushy, challenging without ever risking injury.Somehow my amazing trainer, Lewis, even managed to cut my coffee consumption down, which shows you what a miracle-worker he is.This place is 11/10. I haven't seen a better place to train.
Signing up with Enterprise has been one of the best things I've done for myself. I've never been able to get my nutrition on track but Matt's helped make it something even I can manage. Training with Matt has been exactly what I needed and I've enjoyed seeing the progress. There's still a lot to learn but I now think I can do it! The trainers are all really friendly and like to joke around, which is great when you're trying to delay the next set to catch your breath!

I used to walk past Enterprise Fitness several years ago and feel that it wasn’t the place for me, I thought it was all about body building / body fit competitions. Once training with Lewis @ Enterprise Fitness since Sept 2020 I realised I was very wrong and not to judge a book by its cover. He has kept me focused and on track for the past 18-20 months (for the most part…unfortunately he isn’t around 24/7 to slap food out of my hand however). Not only have I gotten stronger and refocused on my physical health, being able to train last year during lockdowns helped with my mental health. Despite all my complaining at 6:30am and how I hate the sled (or any other piece of equipment really…) I enjoy working with Lewis and having him continue to push me to improve. The whole team is incredibly welcoming, supportive and friendly and very focused on helping their clients achieve their health goals
I have been training for years and had multiple pt before I come to enterprise.I’m extremely lucky to have Mark and Adrian as my trainers now. Mark has taught me a lot since I started training in enterprise. His attention to details and level of professionalism are phenomenal. I've been training with Coach Jaka and Coach Ari for the past 12 weeks at enterprise fitness. They are amazing trainers and I have gotten great results and increased my knowledge around training and nutrition. Would highly recommend enterprise - The whole team is extremely professional and they focus on your goals and set put a plan for how to achieve them. The gains I made in twelve weeks and the knowledge I gained around training was invaluable.

Went to a group exercise class and the staff were phenomenal!Big shout out to trainer Jaka whose coaching was absolutely fantastic! As someone only starting to seriously explore fitness, their regular check-ins with posture and gym weights was greatly helpful.

I had heard from a friend, who had been injured, about how important it was to learn the right weight-lifting techniques. He mentioned Enterprise Fitness.After letting myself go during the pandemic; and gaining a considerable amount of fat, it was time to stop the downward spiral. Training with Tyrone and Enterprise has been the best experience I could've ever imagined. Before I started training at Enterprise, the majority of my workouts consisted of the same few exercises and I never progressed my weights each week so I never really saw any changes. When I started I had been on a vegan diet for a few years and my body felt weak and tired because I wasn't eating from the right food groups so I decided I wanted to get help from a professional who knew the ins and outs of training and nutrition and Tyrone was everything I could've wanted. The Enterprise team are so welcoming and warm, knowing that I came from a background with little experience in training and nutrition, they were there every step of the way to help me reach the goals I want. Nothing felt like a 'quick fix' with Enterprise, you can tell the team is dedicated to making sustainable changes both mentally and physically to help each person that comes in. Each session I have with Tyrone is fun and extremely informative, he helps me every step of the way and tailors my food and training to what works best for me, and I'm constantly learning more whilst being pushed to my absolute limit. He has taught me the importance of progressive overload, form and having the right diet to support my workouts and fuel my body. Now my mindset around food and fitness has completely changed, and instead of constantly being tired and dreading my training, it's now an essential part of my everyday life. I have been training at Enterprise Fitness for almost a year now and can not recommend this studio enough. Mark and all of his extremely knowledgeable trainers have been so kind, welcoming, and relentless in helping me achieve my goals. Matt, in particular, has been so supportive and encouraging, always adapting to my particular challenges. He never hesitates when tailoring to me, flexibility has never been an issue (shift worker), and real life always has always had a place in building my sustainable life-long health and wellness. I have been training with Tyrone for just over 6 months now. Tyrone is the best PT you can asked for. Very knowledgeable with both nutrition and training. He knows how to push me to the limit but still having lots of fun. With my prolong low carbs and IF prior to coming to EF, my hairs started to fall and my joints were in bad shape. Tyrone has been able to change my mindset about healthy eating to perform to my max ability to gain lean muscles, much better joints movement and improved my metabolism which I have been struggled in the past.
Following a back injury where surgery was the recommended option, I joined enterprise fitness as a final attempt to strengthen my muscles and avoid surgery due to lack of success in physical therapy.I have only been training with my coaches Matt and Tyler for 5 weeks and have since been told by my doctors that i will no longer require surgery.Both Matt and Tyler always take the time to follow up with me following my sessions and frequently check in on how I am going with my diet and sleep.Thanks to Enterprise fitness I am now no longer in significant pain and have avoided spinal surgery.I would highly recommend enterprise fitness to anyone who is keen to commence their fitness journey.Thank you so much Matt and Tyler!!!!!!

Like for most people, 2020 was a tough year that left me feeling quite unmotivated and feel worse for wear. My fitness had gone down due to inactivity and a demanding work schedule, and my health was suffering. By the time I began looking around for a personal trainer to help me with my fitness goals, I had a multitude of gut issues, I’d lost a significant amount of hair, to the point of beginning to bald at the crown of my head, and my nails were lifting off the nail bed. I’ve also been blessed with hormonal acne for the past 20 years and my sleep schedule has been terrible since my teens. I figured, those were all problems for my GP, just need to find a PT to “get back into it” and be able to wear a bikini again.I’d walked past Enterprise Fitness more times than I could say, and always saw it busy. I peeked in through the window and saw an impressive display of photos of amazingly sculpted physiques, many of which had taken part in fitness comps…. That definitely isn’t me. Later that night I was doing a Google search for PTs in my area and Enterprise came us at the top of the list and so many 5 star reviews. I read through dozens of them and found one really stood out for me. One of their clients also had hormonal issues causing skin problems, and had gut health issues. She credited Enterprise Fitness and the training, support and advice she had received from them for her health problems and general wellbeing improving. That was enough for me to send an email enquiry through their website to set up an initial consultation.The day after I was sitting inside the gym, and answering questions about my health, previous training, eating habits, sleeping habits. Next was how often I would like to train, what times suited me, and based off my availability and wants for training outcome I was paired with Liam. Cannot begin to describe how grateful I am for that. Liam and I had a consultation and again delved deep into sleeping and eating habits. Within minutes of doing body fat measurements he was able to identify that I had gut, hormonal, and sleep issues. I was amazed, as we spoke more and more about my medical history with previous treatment for my acne, and my sleep schedule, and my prolonged period of under eating I could see his eyes widening. I on the other hand thought “Yeah, but that’s just me, what’s the big deal?”.So, to cut a very long story slightly shorter, Liam with great care, wrote up weekly meal plans for me, created exercise programs to strengthen weak spots and instability. He also drummed into me the importance of good sleep, and recommended supplements to support this and my stress levels. So far it’s been just over 6 months and I cannot describe how profound a change I have experienced. With the help of Liam, and Kristine, a wonderful naturopath that I connected with through Enterprise, my digestion is back to normal, and my sleep is the best it’s been since I was 15 years old. My hair is growing back and my nails are growing out. I wouldn’t have believed the difference, my energy levels are up and I feel ready to push forward with our training. I’m so excited for the next stage of my journey, and with Liam I know I’ll continue to get support, great advice and loads of motivation. Fair warning though, if you’re lucky enough to have Liam as your trainer, he will push you, and his cheeky smile is never a good thing for your already quaking muscles. He will not go easy on you but he will help you push forward and make you laugh. Each session with him has been challenging, fun, and uplifting. But that’s also the atmosphere and culture I see with all the trainers at Enterprise, and even among the clients. You very much feel connected part of a big group, all there to improve and motivate eachother. Even though I’m just at the beginning of my journey, I’m so ready to progress and keep improving. And so I have to say thank you to everyone at Enterprise Fitness, especially Liam. I dedicate all my future mini skirt and bikinis to you!
Enterprise Fitness is a hub of like minded individuals who are trying to better themselves both mentally and physically. It is a place of education to enable all to make sustainable changes to lifestyle for health longevity. It is the coaches that make all the difference and it is here that my personal journey has been the most interesting.From the White Wizard and his crazy programs to the English (Irish or Scottish - hard to tell the difference) EZY Bar master I was finally able to land with THE MAN aka Liam! With a like minded drive for results and challenging programming whilst having me actually eat, I’ve found my way to Nirvana - thank you Liam!Of course all the trainers at Enterprise are amazing, the banter and competitiveness amongst them all is part of the culture and in my eyes the charm.
The great thing about enterprise is that it’s not simply a gym. This is where ‘change’ happens, mentally and physically. The workout programs are very well structured depending on your goal along with a realistic nutrition plan and the best thing of all are the trainers. The culture at enterprise fitness is unmatched. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I have been training with one of the coaches at Enterprise Fitness, Amelia. She has been excellent with all the qualities you would want in a trainer- attentive, receptive, knowledgeable and supportive. And genuinely invested in helping me reach my goals. It's a great studio, with friendly staff, and a non-judgemental atmosphere. I don't come from a health and fitness background but feel welcomed there and would recommend to all.
When they say ‘they change lives’ they mean it!!! Enterprise is a family looking after all aspects of your health and wellbeing….while having lots of fun! Amy has been my trainer for the last year and is exceptional at what she does. She knows when to push me and what keeps me motivated to reach my goals. The facility is very professional, know exactly what to plan for your workout routines, and meal planning. My trainer was Jaka, and he knew his stuff very well, passionate about his job, overall a good experience
I thought I had perfected my technique. I thought I had my diet worked out. I thought I knew what lifting to failure was. I thought I couldn’t get any more motivated, or lift with any more intensity. But I also knew I wasn’t getting the results I should be - so I went to Enterprise and started training with Adrian Faranda. He refined my lifting technique, form and tempo, re-educated me on what healthy nutrition is, reset my metabolism (increasing my calories from a measly 1800 to over 3500 a day while still leaning out), and helped me take my training intensity to a whole new level. The physical changes I achieved in the first few months alone surpassed my expectations, but even more so the mental health improvements. The gym itself is well equipped, and more importantly, staffed by an amazing coaching team of individuals who are energetic, knowledgeable and welcoming. Don’t hesitate to become part of the ‘wolfpack’ at Enterprise – cannot recommend them highly enough!
As a gym newbie I can recommend this place to every person who wants to have a smooth start. Everything got explained to me very well at the beginning, I felt guided and supported on every step.Jaka, who I train with, is a great personal trainer. Very professional, understanding and kind. He does a great job trying to motivate me, check on me and push me to do more and better.I highly recommend this place and the crew.
Staff are friendly in enterprise fitness. I trained with Coach Jaka, he gave me diet plan and detailed training plan. He will adjust the plan according to my feedback. I can feel my change in a few weeks, lost some body weight, and gain a bit more muscle. He also showed me the right position to do exercises. I would recommend enterprise fitness to my friends.
Love love LOVE this place, the atmosphere is so supportive and energetic (literally buzzing every time I walk in) and facilities are top-notch and clean.Have not felt better, stronger and more confident in myself since I started here and HUGE thank you to Amy for pushing and reminding me of what I'm truly capable of, especially in moments of self doubt which I admit, is most of the time. Never regretted and this is just the beginning! :)UPDATE:What was supposed to be 12 weeks turned into more than 12 months because of lockdown 😅 If that's doesn't scream JOIN ENTERPRISE, I don't know what will. And the fact that they gave me pricing options because I'm still studying and working part time to pay for my sessions shows me that they care about you as a person, not just the money in your pocket. If you want to shed bit of lockdown weight or transform your life, this is the place! 💪💪
I cannot recommend Enterprise Fitness highly enough.The coaches and team are very knowledgeable and welcoming. From someone who had no idea how to use anything in a gym but a treadmill over the last 12 months coach Tyrone Folino has pretty much changed my life. Enterprise Fitness has been awesome. Body recomposition can be tricky to achieve without the right knowledge and there’s a lot of misinformation out there. My trainer, Tyler, is excellent. All I have to do is train hard, eat right and leave the rest to him. I came across Enterprise Fitness during one of the most difficult times in my life. I knew I needed to start making my health a priority again but I was looking for something more than just your regular gym. I did a lot of research because I wanted to be taken seriously. I wanted to lift weights, not run on a treadmill or do group classes. I've been training at Enterprise for about 6 weeks now and it has been a very positive experience. To start, the environment at the gym is fantastic. Everyone from the trainers, staff, and owners to the other clients is very friendly and welcoming. No matter your skill level, age, or goal, you will feel welcome in the Enterprise community. The wide range of equipment at the gym is very high quality and clean. My trainer, Jaka Achmad, has been exceptional. He is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of fitness and nutrition and is always willing to answer my questions. He has a very sharp eye for detail and always makes sure my form is correct before and while doing the exercises. He pushes me to work hard and is always encouraging me to hit that very last rep. I've learned that you must be constantly pushing and challenging yourself if you want to see results. In addition, he is friendly and respectful and prompt to respond to messages and emails. Overall, I would highly recommend training at Enterprise Fitness. You will find a community that cares about you and wants you to succeed in reaching your goals.
Had such a great experience with Jaka, he was kind and understanding but pushed me to my absolute limit, I've never been so mentally strong. The atmosphere was warm and non judgemental. This place is not just for gym junkies its also for the average person who wants to challenge/better themselves physically and mentally!
Since joining Enterprise my entire life has changed. I have transformed physically, mentally and emotionally. The knowledge I have gained is invaluable and continues to grow day by day whilst working with them. There are simply not enough words to express how grateful I am for the work the team at Enterprise put into their clients, particularly Liam and Amelia who I like to call the A-Team. They have become somewhat of a second family to me and I wouldn't have it any other way.
